Our majors have the chance to conduct research with our faculty.

Wingate University students have the rare opportunity to conduct biology research as undergraduates, working alongside seasoned scientists. Faculty members bring students in to assist with their ongoing projects in these areas:

the hands of two students and one professor use scaples to examine the specimen on their dissecting pan

  • Bird communication and animal behavior
  • Biological control of insects
  • Fertility and pregnancy in domestic animals
  • Programmed cell death
  • Stress and academic performance

Other projects involve research into:

  • Biotechnology
  • Cancer cell biology
  • Environmental microbiology
  • Genetic markers
  • Muscle physiology
  • Plant biology

Wingate University also participates in the GlaxoSmithKline Women in Science Scholars program. This is a unique opportunity for our female undergraduates to work with a professional scientist who serves as a mentor. It’s one more reason our program has earned its strong reputation in the scientific community.

Being able to conduct real-world research is a major advantage for our students. Would you like to be part of a team making new scientific discoveries? Join us as a biology major. And make your mark in the realm of scientific discovery.
