The health and physical education major offers you a challenging, fulfilling education that prepares you to share that passion with K-12 students. You’ll have the skills to work effectively in and out of the classroom.
It’s a great match.
A Good Fit for You
Maybe your dream career includes showing fourth graders how to kick a soccer ball during gym class. Or teaching high school students the importance of nutrition and exercise in a health class. Or continuing your education with a graduate degree in sports psychology, exercise physiology or school administration. Our major puts you on these career paths.
The Department of Health and Physical Education equips you to work with students from kindergarten through 12th grade. Active learning is at the center of our accredited program, with hands-on projects designed to engage you from day one. We focus on the entire person, so you become an effective teacher in the classroom and coach on the playing field. You won’t just teach kids the rules of a game. You’ll help your students develop and understand the importance of healthy habits and fitness practices to last a lifetime.
Wingate University also offers graduate degrees in education.
A Healthy Career Outlook
As part of our health and physical education major, students spend 15 weeks as a student teacher, gaining classroom experience. You also build a portfolio to showcase assignments you’ve created, teaching strategies from your internship and other accomplishments. Many health and physical education students also pass the Praxis II, a certification test for K-12 educators.
As soon as you graduate, you’re ready to step into the classroom or onto the playing field.
