James Bullock to lead fundraising and development efforts

By Kristen Yost

James Bullock has been appointed senior vice president for University Advancement.

“I am excited to be part of President Brown’s dynamic leadership team and plan to make a meaningful contribution in carrying out the vision for the next chapter of this wonderful university,” Bullock said.

At Wingate, Bullock will lead philanthropic efforts with individuals, foundations and corporations in support of the University’s mission and priorities. Additionally, he will steer Wingate’s 500-acre master plan, partner with regional leaders on economic development initiatives and steward the University’s real estate investments.

“No doubt James’ impressive advancement career at two outstanding North Carolina independent universities will serve Wingate well,” President Rhett Brown said. “Everyone I speak with holds him in such high regard, personally and professionally. Bringing him on board will certainly contribute to Wingate’s core mission of educating difference-makers in more innovative and creative ways.”

Bullock previously served as the chief advancement officer at Wake Forest University and Queens University of Charlotte. During his tenures at those schools, total giving exceeded $1 billion.

“I am confident that James’ established relationships in the region will elevate Wingate University’s profile in the Charlotte business community and beyond, as well as complement our existing strong ties within Union County,” Board of Trustee Chairman Joe Patterson said.

Bullock will join Wingate on Sept. 1.
