Wingate named one of most desired schools of past decade
by Chuck Gordon

Wingate University has seen explosive enrollment growth in the past few years. It’s no surprise, then, that it is considered one of the most desired schools in the nation.

LendEDU, which operates a website where students and their parents can research how best to pay for college, ranks Wingate No. 6 in North Carolina and No. 190 in the nation in desirability, based on enrollment data comparing 2008-09 and 2018-19.

Wingate has seen a 285 percent increase in the number of applications over that time span. During the same time frame, Wingate has undergone significant campus-beautification efforts, added several health-science-related graduate programs, and built a state-of-the-art health-and-wellness center, all while maintaining high academic standards and bolstering popular programs, such as W’International.

“Every day we see students come to our campus who are blown away by everything that Wingate has to offer,” says Liz Biggerstaff, director of undergraduate admissions. “From our signature travel-abroad experience, W'International, to our stellar health-science programs, there is good reason that Wingate University has become one of the most popular schools in North Carolina.”

LendEDU used figures on the number of applications and admissions yield (those students who ultimately enrolled at a particular school) from the National Center for Education Statistics’ Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System. They compared data from more than 1,200 colleges and universities, both public and private.
