Wingate University has been selected as the host institution for the 2025 men’s and women’s NCAA Division II soccer national championships. The semifinals and finals of each tournament will be played at the Sportsplex at Matthews, just up the road from Wingate in Matthews, N.C.
“This selection is a tribute to the excellent national reputation that our soccer program has earned under the leadership of Gary Hamill,” says Steve Poston, WU vice president and director of athletics. “Being selected to host an NCAA national championship is not a small achievement. Special thanks should also go to Michelle Caddigan, who shepherded the University through the application process.”
Both Wingate soccer programs have experienced sustained success over the past couple of decades. Hamill, director of soccer and men’s head coach, is 343-164-31 in 28 seasons at Wingate, including the 2016 NCAA Division II national championship. The Bulldogs reached the national quarterfinals in 2019.
Also last year, the women’s team, under first-year head coach Jack Vundum, reached the NCAA Sweet Sixteen.
