two students walk past the fountainThe North Carolina Need-Based Scholarship (NCNBS) is awarded to students who demonstrate financial need. This state funding can be combined with other grants, scholarships and loans as long as it doesn’t exceed the cost of education.

Who Qualifies?

You may qualify if you meet the following criteria:

  • You’re a permanent resident of North Carolina
  • Your expected family contribution doesn’t exceed $15,000.

How to Apply

Complete the FAFSA by the priority deadline of March 1 each year. Once you have been awarded funding, you must also fill out the Residency Form.

How to Maintain Eligibility

To maintain your eligibility for a NCNBS, make sure you:

  • Are enrolled as a full-time student (12 credit hours or more) or 3/4 time (9–11 credit hours)
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress
