The NCNBS helps students who need it.
The North Carolina Need-Based Scholarship (NCNBS) is awarded to students who demonstrate financial need. This state funding can be combined with other grants, scholarships and loans as long as it doesn’t exceed the cost of education.
You may qualify if you meet the following criteria:
- You’re a permanent resident of North Carolina
- Your effective family contribution doesn’t exceed $15,000.

How to Maintain Eligibility
To maintain your eligibility for a NCNBS, make sure you:
- Are enrolled as a full-time student (12 credit hours or more) or 3/4 time (9–11 credit hours)
- Maintain satisfactory progress in your studies
You may receive NCNBS for a maximum of nine semesters.
