Choose a strong password to stay safer online.

Your Wingate University password must meet the following password requirements.

  1. Your password must be at least 12 characters long.
  2. Your password cannot be the user’s entire username or full name

The username is checked in its entirety to determine whether it is part of the password. If the username is less than three characters long, this check is skipped. The full name is checked for delimiters, such as commas, periods, dashes or hyphens. If any of these are found, the username is split and all sections are confirmed as not being included in the password.

Sections that are less than three characters in length are ignored. For example, the username “Victor E. Bulldog” is split into three sections: “Victor,” “E,” and “Bulldog.” The initial is only one character long and therefore is ignored. This user cannot have a password that includes either “Victor” or “bulldog.”

  1. The last four passwords are remembered by the system.
  2. The first password you choose cannot be changed for one full week.
  3. Your password must contain characters from three of the following five categories.
    – Uppercase characters of European languages (A through Z, with diacritic marks, Greek and Cyrillic characters).
    – Lowercase characters of European languages (a through z, sharp-s, with diacritic marks, Greek and Cyrillic characters).
    – Numbers
    – Non-alphnumeric characters: ~!@#$%^&*_+=’/|(){}:;<>,.?
    – Any Unicode character that is categorized as an alphabetic character but is not uppercase or lowercase. This includes Unicode characters from Asian languages.
  4. All passwords expire every 365 days.
  5. Your passwords must be changed by using the Password Self-Service website; all users must enroll in this website.
