Wingate University Commencement: It’s a time for celebrations and new beginnings for our graduates!
Each spring, the campus blooms with excitement as May approaches. Yes, our campus is always beautiful and bursts with new life in spring, but spring is also the time for Wingate University graduation. It’s a chance to reflect on your accomplishments and look ahead with anticipation.
Most of the current year’s graduates attend commencement. If you’re graduating, we invite you, your family and friends to take part in this milestone celebration. Our Wingate University Commencement Week brochure (PDF) has all the details about this year’s event.
RSVP for Commencement Events
And if you are graduating, we’re holding three events that lead up to commencement day. Make sure you RSVP for each one to reserve your spot:
- The Office of Student Life is sponsoring a trip for graduates to the U.S. National Whitewater Center on Wednesday, May 11. This 700-acre facility offers mountain biking, running trails, a climbing center, kayaking, canoeing and whitewater rafting. Pre-registration is required.
- All graduates are invited to the annual WU Commencement Breakfast in Cuddy Arena on Friday, May 13 at 9am. It’s a perfect time for new graduates to join friends and reminisce about their time at Wingate University. Attire is dressy casual. This event is free, but graduates must RSVP by Monday, May 9. A commencement rehearsal follows the breakfast.
- The Office of Alumni and Parent Relations invites new graduates to their first official Wingate University alumni event on Saturday, May 14 at 7pm in Cuddy Arena. All graduates and their families are invited to celebrate this milestone and to be welcomed into the Wingate alumni network. The event features music from the band Who Rescued Who, food and drinks and awesome prizes. This event is free, but pre-registration is required for all guests. RSVP by Monday, May 9.
Wingate University Commencement 2016 will take place on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 9am. It is held outdoors on the Academic Quadrangle. If heavy rain, thunder or other adverse weather occurs, commencement will be held indoors in Cuddy Arena.
Seating and Parking
Tickets are not required and seating is first-come, first-serve. Reserved seating for faculty, administrators, trustees, graduating students and special needs guests is marked with yellow ribbons. Parking for commencement is available along the streets and in all campus parking lots.
Meeting Special Needs
We do not designate one area for special needs because all seating in the Academic Quadrangle is accessible. The graduation ceremony seats are folding chairs and are easily moved for different seating needs. Shade is limited, so plan to arrive early to obtain seats in the shade. A live video feed is available in Austin Auditorium for guests who prefer to sit indoors.
If inclement weather causes us to move the ceremony indoors to Cuddy Arena, accessible seating is limited. To ensure that all guests with special needs have accessible indoor seating, only one companion may sit with that guest.
