Protect your rights: Use this Student Waiver of FERPA form to authorize us to share your information with your parents.
FERPA, also known as the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, protects students’ rights concerning educational records and information. Among other features, FERPA outlines rules regarding students’ information being released and disclosed.
There are two different waiver forms for authorizing us to share and/or release your information.
When you apply for financial aid, you must complete the current Financial Planning FERPA Authorization Form so we can release certain confidential financial aid information.
If you want to share or discuss your academic records with a third party, including your parents, you need to complete the FERPA Authorization Form found on the Wingate University portal.
If you have questions or concerns about FERPA or this authorization form, please contact the Office of the Registrar.
By signing and submitting this form, you indicate that you understand that under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Wingate University is generally prohibited from releasing information concerning my educational records to any third parties, including parents, without your written consent.*
If you do want your parents to have access to your educational records and therefore, waive your rights under FERPA to maintain confidentiality of such information with respect to your parents, you acknowledge that with this waiver, Wingate University is free to disclose to your parents any educational records the university has about you.
*FERPA allows the university make exceptions to this rule without a student’s written consent only under limited circumstances. The term “educational records” under FERPA includes: academic, financial and siciplinary student records. The U.S. Department of Education is responsible for overseeing FERPA.
