Health insurance offsets the cost of unexpected illness or injury. This includes laboratory procedures, medications, and services that incur additional fees. It also gives students access to services and specialists not available in the Health Center on campus.

Wingate University complies fully with the Affordable Care Act (ACA), effective January 2014. This law requires individuals, including students, to have adequate health insurance coverage.

Proof of insurance is required for all full-time students taking 12 or more credit hours on the Wingate campus. It is also required of all health science majors on the Wingate and Hendersonville campuses.

If You Need Insurance

We’ve negotiated an affordable insurance option with United HealthCare for students not already covered under their own policies.

The cost is $732 per semester ($1,464 per year) and provides coverage for one full year. Visit the Wingate University page for this program for the full list of the United HealthCare coverage benefits.

Students may also choose to purchase their own comparable insurance plan.

If You Already Have Insurance

Students who already have comparable health insurance must complete the online waiver by the deadline for each semester.

“Accepted coverage” is any ACA-compliant policy and may include:

  • A parent’s plan
  • Employer-sponsored plans
  • Family plans

Complete the Online Waiver

Students must complete the online waiver by the deadline for each semester. If you have questions about health insurance for your student, visit our Heath Center’s Health Insurance FAQs page.
